Star Light, Star Bright

The continuing discoveries of a 21st century artist and naturalist …

The Latin word Asteroides means star-like or aster-like.  This post will be about those stars that inhabit the landscape around us – not the heavens.   Flowers in the family Asteraceae bloom at many different times of the year but most do so in the late summer through fall.  They continue to shine into the cooler weather of fall when many other wildflowers have gone to seed.

The Asters shown below are truly the ‘tip of the iceberg’ since Asteraceae is one of the largest families of wildflowers (it also is sometimes referred to as Compositae which includes all Daisy and Daisy-like flowers).
